About Beatrice Amblard, Hermes-Trained Master Leather Artisan
Béatrice Amblard
Béatrice “Bea” Amblard is a master leather artisan with more than 40 years of experience. Béatrice was born in France and enrolled in the prestigious Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris when she was 16. Immediately after graduation, she was hired by Hermès in Paris as an apprentice leather artisan.
In 1987, Hermès sent her to San Francisco as an “Ambassador” to their newly opened San Francisco boutique. She was the second employee ever sent to the United States by Hermès. After working on and designing custom leather goods for fourteen years at Hermès, Béatrice launched her own bespoke line and school.
Béatrice remains the only Hermès artisan in the United States designing under her own label, and with her own boutique. And she started her school to democratize master-level leather artisan education with her AMBLARD Method.
She has trained over a thousand students from beginners to professional artisans.
"I teach the way I work. Produce something well, and do not compromise."

Amélie Amblard
Amélie Amblard brings ten years of instructional experience to Amblard Leather Atelier. The daughter of founder Béatrice Amblard, she began her formal education at St. Lawrence University, earning her BA in Fine Arts in 2014, then completed the full AMBLARD Method program in 2015.
Since then, she has taught continuously at the atelier, working alongside her mother to maintain the technical standards and pedagogical methods that define the AMBLARD approach. Her instruction emphasizes methodical skill-building and precise execution across all levels of the curriculum.
Amélie holds expertise in both foundational techniques and advanced construction methods, with particular strength in pattern development and finishing work.
Misty Rose
After completing the program in 2012, Misty became Beatrice’s right-hand, overseeing operations and teaching classes. She is also an Oakland-based shoemaker and the founder of mzzTrzz Shoemaking Materials & Tools- offering shoe supplies to the at home artisan & hands-on shoe workshops in Oakland, California.
Misty Rose’s teaching is grounded in a deep respect for Beatrice, her craft & method, material intelligence, and thoughtful making. Drawing from a foundation in Theatre–Costume Design (CSU–Hayward, 2000), flat pattern design at Apparel Arts with Suzy Ferrer (2003), refined leatherworking at Amblard Leather Atelier (2012), advanced study with award-winning bootmaker Bill Shanor (2024), and ongoing bespoke shoemaking study with master artist & IDA Design Winner Noriyuki Misawa at The Shoemaker School in Tokyo (2025–present), she integrates technical precision with creative problem-solving.
Her approach emphasizes strong fundamentals, hands-on learning, and an appreciation for process—empowering students to develop both skill and confidence while honoring traditional techniques and contemporary practice.
